I have a savings account in the UK but as we all know the interest rates are pretty poor, 2% at the moment. Anyone got any financial tips for securing some sort of possibly offshore account where it is not necessary to have a UK address

Offshore Stirling account - or offshore in local currency?

Be warned, you may lose more with fluctuating exchange rates than gain with extra interest.

Does it have to be in ££ .. the tax-free, soc. contrib.-free accounts Livret A and LDDS offer 3% .. the LEP offers 6% .. but it depends on the amount you are talking about as the upper limit for a Livret A is 23 000€ each, for a LDDS it's 12 000€ each and for a LEP it's 10 000€ each.
Nothing to declare and no tax to pay. Each being you and your wife.

Surely that won't work with a french address?

Skipton International do a rather good 1-year placement. Tailored for Brits who live abroad. Not tax and Social charge-free but I think the SC rate for S1 holders is 7.5% on interest?

Certainly METRO require a UK address to bank with them and Nationwide will not allow you to open an account unless you have a UK address.

Which account is that? Is there a minimum investment?
All I could see was a 5.15% with 200 days notice and a minimum £25K to open an account?
