Windscreen washers seem to do a good job ...
Meths and newspaper does an acceptable job but it works best on windows cleaned regularly and is hard work on large windows.

Years ago, before the water shortages, we used to use well water sprayed with a hose, washing up liquid and a squeegee but times have changed.
We use Liz's mixture of water and vinegar and a drop of washing up liquid. The areas where the dogs sniffed/licked needed a bit of insistance but we've stopped worrying about the smears.

Given where we live I don't bother cleaning them much more than twice a year.
And the few windows we have face East so always look dreadful anyway.

We have recently bought a Karcher window cleaner and their cleaning fluid. The results are good and it takes much less time and effort than our previous techniques. Smearing reappears gradually after 3 or 4 weeks.
We have a lot of windows so it’s worth it for us.

I have tried everything to clean windows without smears when the sun is on them. Karchers, vinegar, detergent, microfibres, squeegees proprietary cleaners etc. None of above worked. I watched a pro on YouTube and he recommended a professional squeegee by Unger. I tried it today and it works. A 35cm costs about 28€ but is worth every penny

So it is the raclette you used ? Or did you buy the cleaning kit ?

Did you use the raclette on the interior of the window or the exterior or both ?

I only clean my windows at this time of year when the sun is low as that’s the only time they look dirty. I use either soap and water with a windscreen wiper thing or spray window cleaner and paper towels. This time I used the spray and the results aren’t too bad.

When I used to commute between Hampshire and London every day (many, many, many years ago) railway station staff would often be cleaning windows in the very early mornings. After using whatever liquid they did, they dried and buffed up the glass with news paper.

Being very considerate, I passed this information onto my wife who continues with this practice to this day.

Same here, I've done it for years, it works well. The used paper then goes for fire lightings.

Since living up here in the frozen north, we've noticed that our windows get far dirtier than they ever did when we lived inland. So much for nice sea air ... Perhaps it's cultivated fields rather than forest.

i just bought the raclette and I cleaned inside and out. For the liquid a splash of white vinegar and a drop of detergent. I already had a faux lambswool washer
