I checked the local hunting days at the Mairie, turns out it's only safe to go walkies on Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays.
There are some tweaks on other days, I think he said that on Saturdays sanglier can only be hunted in the hills, but if the beasts go down on to the flatter lands bordering the Lot the guns can follow them (or was it the other way round? )
Either way as soon as he hears gunshot our doodle goes into fear/defence mode and either runs for the car or to find a deep hidey-hole in the undergrowth and won't come out. And if he hears the guns before leaving home he won't go out of the gate.
It's a shame that families can't safely go for a country walk at weekends. There have been national campaigns in previous years to stop hunting on Sunday afternoons for that very reason.

I agree Liz, I cannot understand why they have priority on Sundays or indeed on Wednesdays, when children aren’t at school and would benefit from being out in the fresh air.
I used to take Freddy out first thing so we were home before 8am and again at lunchtime but now that’s impossible at the weekend as the younger ones don’t appear to take long lunches round here.
