Doctolib scam

#1 Post by Blaze »

I've just had the fright of my life !!!
I booked a mammogram by phone on Monday for April next year (yes, the delay is long), which was confirmed by email. I don't go via Doctolib because in the past they don't do mammogram RDVs.
I have just received an email from No Reply at Doctolib.fr saying my practitioner had cancelled RDV for various reasons (arrêt maladie etc). There was a button to click on to made a RDV, which I did NOT click on.
A quick phone call to the Centre d'Imagerie who told me that my RDV hadn't been cancelled, all was well, and that they didn't use Doctolib.
The email looked perfectly genuine, all the right details - so how did they get the info ?? No doubt it was a phishing expedition ....
When you have to book things so far ahead, the last thing you want to hear is that the RDV has been cancelled !!!

I had a confirmation email from Doctolib (which surprised me as I didn't make the booking through them) with the right time for the RDV but the cancellation I received today gave the time as 15 mins later ... I smelt a rat ...
Unbelievable.

There is far more of our personal information out there accessible to the wrong people than most people can imagine. Its not only the bad guys hacking into various databases but loads of stuff we willingly allow to be sold to the highest bidder via trusted intermediaries. Simply trying to access information online often requires us to "register" which puts our information into the hands of third parties. Our personal information has become a commodity for marketing exploitation and more devious purposes by scammers.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

You're right Hotrodder, it's scary.
I always prefer to make a rendezvous in person which is often easier than hanging onto the phone waiting. Whilst Doctolib can be very good (it was brilliant during Covid), I'm still wary.

I made a RDV at our local Radiographie lab today. They never answer the phone when you call. I always use their website to make my appointments. The website serves four different labs (all in different nearby towns). There really isn't any other way to make an appointment.

The rest of our doctors (MT, Dentist, Sage Femme) I telephone them for an appointment.

The entire stealing personal data has just gone crazy. You cannot trust ANYTHING.

What do they gain by cancelling your appointment?
It seems a lot of trouble to go to for no monetary gain.

If she had clicked on the link in the email, she could have opened her computer to a virus or a number of other things. This is often how hackers gain access to the personal data on your computer. That can then lead them to your money.

Thanks Blaze - if they contact me about a mammogram I'll know it's a scam!

Blaze said it was a " no reply" email. Therefore no link!
