Crazy Cat or Brave?

Last evening one of our cats was dozing on the lawn when my wife spotted a fox apparently creeping up on him. Rather than risk the possibility of an attack I went out and chased the fox up the garden but was beaten to it by the cat who hotly pursued it. Fortunately he didn't catch it but is he mad or what?

That must have been funny to watch ! I think chasing something that's running away gives them courage.

Talking of foxes, I saw one yesterday, probably hit by a car but someone had put it carefully up on a bank. It looked like a pregnant female (it's the season)
Despite the intense crop farming here, there are still hares and foxes and the odd bunny.

I went to look at an outboard motor that was being offered for sale. As I got out of the car my Yorkie hopped out for a quick wee. The owner's cat spotted our approach and steamed in to attack my dog. Luckily I was very close but I had to grab the cat and lift it (with the dog in its claws) two feet off the ground before it let go, only to instantly twist round to do a good job of shredding my arm. The owner made a feeble attempt at an apology but added that the cat had killed a fox a couple of weeks before.

I did buy the motor while bleeding profusely and it turned out to be a bargain. I still have the scars on my arm.

Here in France I drove down to Dordogneshire to view a house for sale. Similar scenario. I had just emerged from the car (this time without any animal companion) and an Alsatian bounded up and went for me. Owners clearly had no control at all over their pet and it took the two of them to restrain the animal and confine it while they did their best to stop the bleeding and bathe the wounds with antiseptic. Needless to say I didn't fancy buying the house, it was on the same plot as theirs and I didn't fancy having an untrained Alsatian as a near neighbour.
