Got to get out more.

#1 Post by L Austin France »

I've just noticed my 5 posts in a row here & in my defence I'm still home alone.
None the less that's a bit serious so I'm going out to do something important like clear the horse muck out of the stable.
Bugger! that now makes it 6.

 I've been out this morning, 'tis too hot to do anything in the garden, I'm supposed to be making summer dresses for my G/daughter but can't be bothered.
The oppressive heat and lack of air have melted my mojo.

Enjoy mucking out - make sure you've got a glass of something cool and refreshing to drink afterwards.

I know the feeling. It's too hot under the sun to work in the garden, though there's plenty of work that could be done..

Bored, I've managed to do the ironing, wash/spin two big heads of lettuce and eat lunch..

Hot here in La Correze also.
To hot to do much outside, so used last weeks hip replacement op as an excuse to sit and write a story.
Comfy seat, cold glass of rose.
Fingers poised on keyboard and woke up an hour later.
Ah well.

Job done.
Had to pick up around the 2 boys as they were indoors trying to avoid the flies.
Had a bit of fun seeing which of the chaps minded having the wheelbarrow pushed under them knowing full well neither of the daft things would bat an eyelid. (not that I could see 'em underneath their anti fly headgear)
Carrots all round for the lads & a cold beer for this old fellow who's just sat here trying to figure out the next job he's no intention of doing. :D

How much longer before your Better Half returns? 8-)

Rode out with the neighbours on their horses at 8am this morning. Flies already bothering us in sunny areas - too hot by 10am. But I just love riding! Thankfully it's mostly forest around us, so fairly cool and flyless most of the time.

I've had to park a wheelbarrow in the middle of the shed where my two little muppets (shetland and donkey) spend their days at the moment to keep away from the flies. They prefer to pee indoors, but it won't drain away - so I park the barrow right where they usually go, so they have to make the effort to go outside!

Found a lush method of catching and dispatching the ruddy crab flies too - good old duct tape! Wrap some around your fingers, sticky side out. Catch the little crawley f*ckers, and stick them to the tape. When you've got them all, dispatch them by whatever method takes your fancy - I loathe them, but cannot kill them between my nails, as they're just too crawly! Oh, and if you get enough of them on the tape at one time, they don't half make a buzzing din!

See what you've started now?!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery Stinky, I hope it doesn't cause you too much pain.

I wish I had tried that with my son - then maybe he would not have put kitchen roll down the toilet.

My cool job for the day has been unplugging it all.

We have two donkeys that live next door to us. I know nothing about horses or donkeys, but I love watching them. One donkey looks younger than the other (one has gray on his face - so it's an assumption). I wondered about the flies. Wondered if there was something they can apply to the donkey's fur to ward off the flies. Also wondered if donkeys have to be taken into their shelter at night or do they go on their own? Soooo many donkey questions.. :D

They have a fairly large closed area; both shaded and sunny. When it rains, I don't see them, so I presume they either know to go to their barn/shelter or their owners take them in.

I have never seen such friendly donkeys. Every time we are on their side of our garden they always come close to us. If we move from one area to the other, they follow us. There is no exception to this. We do talk to them. Each time Madame (the owner) goes out to greet them, they talk to her. Nearly every single time. Of course, she talks to them too. It's really cute. And when the dog; Marco, barks, the donkeys talk too. There is a grand randonné that runs between our two properties. Every time anyone walks the GR, the donkeys run over to follow them.

Would love to give them a carrot now and then, but we don't know the owners, so resist.

Okay, that's my story for the day.

Yeah, trying to feed the owners carrots could be a problem ;)
