In Occitanie mask wearing in medical establishments and medical taxis varies.
In our GP waiting room you are expected to wear a mask and everyone does
In Cahors hospital it is no longer required
In the eye clinique Honore Cave in Montauban masks are required
Yesterday Fixit found his regular hospital taxi no longer expected or required him to wear a mask, a few weeks earlier they did.
We avoid kissy kissy as far as we can, and at official Council meetings etc which I have to attend no-one minds if I don't shake hands

How do people live without at least one dog in the house?

Interesting what you say about mask wearing. I met with my doctor sans masque for the first time recently and I didn't recognise her. I'd never seen her unmasked before because we registered with her during Covid. I wonder what affect this has had on young children and babies. When I analysed my response I realised that I had developed a mental picture of her face that didn't exist, and that's what threw me.

Good excuse to decline someone's invite to a popular Chinese Buffet restaurant in Périgueux then! A crazy moment overcame us at Christmas, and we took daughter there for lunch on a Saturday. Son and I nearly had panic attacks, as the place was heaving and queueing out of the door by 12.30pm. Being a buffet, help yourself affair, you're squishing up against all and sundry and sharing serving tools.
Listening to people coughing around us, it was like being in a nightmare - as we've been so unsociable for the last couple of years (and we're pretty unsociable at the best of times!)
I'm amazed none of us took away some lurgy or other - but I'm not risking it again! Call me a wimp - I don't care!!

They recon in UK that the "Eat out to help out" was a major spreader - although some came up with innovative ways to eat whilst wearing a mask

I am quite sure that mask wearing has had a great effect on language acquisition for children & babies.Mangetout wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 8:12 am Interesting what you say about mask wearing. When I moved to France (December 2021) masks were still being worn everywhere & I found it much harder to understand people.

@Mangetout I know what you mean about not recognising people : it was the same with colleagues at our local vaccination/PCR centre after nearly 2 years of working together.
I agree about the problems of language with masks - some people were difficult to understand and dealing with people who were hard of hearing wasn't easy !
People who came in with babies and small children said it didn't seem to be a problem but I occasionally lowered my mask quickly to give them a smile...
The kissy-kissy thing has become less popular generally - there's more hand-shaking or fist to fist. I've always never liked children (but not adults) being expected to kiss strangers but that's probably down to culture.

I don't like hand-shaking. Knowing how bad people can be at washing their hands (especially after they've been to the loo!) and people cough and sneeze into their hands, I'd say there's potentially more germs there than if you did "air-kissing". Yes, the virus has made me more germophobic!

I agree about hands - and, yes, people don't wash their hands after going to the loo. I usually have some gel with me. When I shake hands with adults, I tend to give 2 fingers because whilst I like a firm handshake, my hands are more sensitive than they used to be !

It has certainly made me more aware. Even while indoors I wash my hands more frequently, and when out shopping I use the anti-bacterial stuff when ever I see it on offer. And I still carry a small bottle of it in my pocket as well.

On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.
