UK bank account(s) closure
My government retirement pension was transferred to our CA account for years, definitely a good exchange rate; I think I just filled a form in and it happened fairly quickly. It covered the two taxes plus money for repairs etc.
I cancelled that as brexit and covid meant we weren’t spending time in France until towards the end of last year, so now use our credit cards and some transfers through Caxton or XE.

We're still waiting to hear whether Nationwide will allow OH to become joint holder of my account.
Still, at least DWP has complied with my instruction to pay my pension to that account, although the amount doesn't seem right. NWide has also credited a Barclays cheque I sent them at the beginning of the postal strike...

@MAD87 every time I see a post from you it shivers me timbers as I think you're gonna say that NWide has sent the closing letter! Phew I shall now go and make a cuppa & have a chocolate biscuit which I shouldn't eat but I'm going too and maybe not just one

Go on, have 3!
I don't swear, but I've been close to letting rip with some very unladylike words over this whole B business.

Can you please tell me at what point the money changes from Sterling to Euros? Does it happen in UK then arrives at my French bank in euros or does my French bank convert it in France? Are you notified of the exchange rate?

I really haven’t thought about it! The reason for the good exchange rate is that such a large amount is transferred for so many people’s monthly pension at one go that a somewhat larger sum arrives in the French bank accounts. No profit needs to be made, as would happen with a bank transfer by an individual.

AIUI the UK govt buys the euros.
@Mad 87 - Nationwide - we moved to France 25 years ago and some 15 years ago when visiting in the UK, my wife asked in a N'wide branch if she could be put on the a/c that I'd had since the early '70s. 'Yes, that shouldn't be problem', she gave them the French address, the a/c no. etc. About a fortnight later we had a letter saying 'Sorry, that's not possible'. Be useful to know if things have changed!
