UK bank account(s) closure
I’ve applied for an HSBC current account online. It was very straightforward.

That's what we're planning to do, just as insurance.DominicBest wrote: ↑Sun Jul 31, 2022 10:31 pm I’ve applied for an HSBC current account online. It was very straightforward.
What makes me really cross is that this fiasco is going to cost us lots of time - this is the 1st day of our summer break and we'll be spending plenty of the next month writing administrative letters.

Did you have to fill in a VERY long questionnaire about your resources, income and what you had for breakfast?DominicBest wrote: ↑Sun Jul 31, 2022 10:31 pm I’ve applied for an HSBC current account online. It was very straightforward.

It costs Barclays about 35p to process a cheque so your scheme might be quite satisfyingexile wrote: ↑Thu Jul 28, 2022 10:10 pm So having received my letter telling me my account will be closed in 6 months time, today I receive a new cheque book - with about 18 months worth still in the old one.
Before I close the account I am very tempted to send everyone I know who can pay in cheques without charge a cheque for 5p just to use up the cheques - and as a poke in the eye to Barclays.

I discovered what my original (long questionnaire) mistake was: I put 'self-employed' in the status box. Next time I changed that to retired, but although the whole process is teed up and apparently ready to go, OH has to do summat and neither of us has a smart phone. The latter mistake (e-signing by phone) has to be changed to 'by e-mail' before we can end what has been an exhausting process which keeps timing out.

It's with HSBC. I spent most of this morning sorting out the mess they or I made. All documents ready to be uploaded but now they want a bloody selfie of each of us!! Why didn't they say that at the beginning?

Exile, could you make my cheque out for 10p please as I am feeling a bit hard up?
How do people live without at least one dog in the house?
