Freedom of Choice Protests hit France
Following on from the devastating ruling over Abortions in America, the protests have already started in France. "My body, My Choice", "No Uterus, No Opinion" placards being carried. It wasn't going to be long before the problem blew across the pond to our shores. I think there are already Anti-Abortion protests starting in the UK?
A huge, contentious subject. But we're hardly an endangered species. When you consider how many unwanted animals are slaughtered in, frankly, awful conditions - terminating an unwanted/unplanned little collection of cells in a safe way pales into insignificance. (Sorry if that offends anyone).
I hope to goodness America's backward thinking doesn't spread to Europe - it is not the way forward.
(Now I'll put my tin hat on and wait for the pro-life brigade to attack me!!)

I think America is "special" in its backward thinking.
Consider they "preserve the life" of a non-viable cluster of cells - then strap a living person to a chair to inject them with poison or electrocute them to death.

@niemeyjt Not to mention refusing to restrict arms and permitting the killing to continue.
@Bayleaf You won't get any argument from me, despite (or possibly because of!) my Catholic background.

@niemeyjt Agreed, J. "Special" is too kind - America oozes with hypocrisy. A country built by immigrants to the detriment of its indigenous population and who today shuns other would-be immigrants. A country flaunting their devotion to Christianity "God bless you" who refuses to restrict weapons, insisting on their constitution-enshrined right to bear arms. And now a country daring to use its religious beliefs to stop women having control over their own bodies. Sweeping statements perhaps as clearly not all Americans can be tarred with the same brush, but a loud-mouthed minority are seeking to drag their country back to the past. Pro life ??? As you so rightly say, J, they're quite willing to poison or electrocute those they judge worthy ....
@Bayleaf Totally agree. Perhaps reporting is biased, but much of what I have seen of the anti abortion/pro life brigade seems to come from men. I suspect if men had to go through what women do to produce children, many would change their tune.

The Republican party seems to be drifting towards becoming the American Taliban, led by supreme leader Trump.

I was raised in the South (USA) and I can assure you there are plenty of women that are anti-abortion. And Nomoss, you said it well. I am ashamed to be American. Still, to this day, the majority of people that are most impacted by what is currently happening in the USA don't vote ! If they did, things would be different.
If you are following the investigation into the Jan 6th events at the White House, it might send a shiver down the spine. Sadly, Trump seems to walk on water. If there are no consequences for his actions, then anything goes. There will be no stopping him or anybody else.

Don't be ! The majority of Americans are good people, not the likes of Trump followers. The voting system in the USA, like the system in France, often pushes people not to vote because it would be a choice between the devil and the deep blue sea. It's sad to see people who want to vote but are left with a choice they don't want.

On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

So true. I can't stand Hillary Clinton, but Trump was even a worse option. I HAD to vote and I chose the lessor of two evils. Bringing back the popular vote would improve things. The electoral college thing is ridiculous.

Not entirely correct - whilst it is dominated by Democrats and Republicans (the devil and the deep blue sea) others can and do stand. Jill Stein of the Greens, for example - and Ross Perrot previously. And it is a single round.
The real issue is that the selection of candidates by both parties seems to require spending vast sums of money on the campaign trail which tends to favour the sleaziest and most deplorable candidates like Clinton, Biden and Trump.
