Anyone know about this if you have family coming to visit from the UK.

Ask your friendly local hotel to give you a (false) booking report for them, scan it in and send to them. As I understand, as long as the travellers have somewhere a hotel to stay, they can enter the country.

Surely they are not stopping all UK reg cars at Dover or wherever and asking for written confirmation of where they are staying??

It’s a requirement for all non-eu citizens visiting an EU country.
Proof of health cover including repatriation, proof of where staying(hotel, campsite or family invitation),proof of sufficient funds to cover the visit.
If no Attestation is obtained, the visitor needs to demonstrate they have 120 euros a day for their stay(credit card)
There is supposed to be some pre-visit form filling and stamping of documents but in 47 prefecture are not up to speed with all this.

"Staying with family, friends or third party - you may be asked to provide an ’attestation d’accueil’ (welcome invitation) from your host if you are staying with friends or family. The French resident hosting you will need to obtain this attestation d’accueil from their local Mayor’s office, and send the original attestation before you enter France. You should also be prepared to show proof of funds of at least €32.50 per day, for the duration of your stay. If you do not have an ‘attestation d’accueil’ you should be ready to fulfil the requirements of option 4 below.................

option 4 You do not have an ‘attestation d’accueil’ or any pre-booked accommodation - in this instance, you may be asked to prove you have sufficient means for your visit, of at least €120 per day for the duration of your stay.

You have to have an attestationd'accueil if you are being hosted If you are staying in hotel accommodation you have to have the booking documentation If you have neither of these then you may be asked to prove you have sufficient means for your visit.

Hope this helps! Trouble is, not all Mairies are up to speed, so best to ask at your own Mairie if they can supply the form or not.

From our experience, and that of our family and friends - who've travelled several times this year - and those on fbk groups for second home owners etc, its not being applied.

I know of a couple who were visiting family recently and were asked to provide the said 'attestation'. They did not have it but called their hosts who did one and sent them an email of the attestation, and this was accepted at the border (Dieppe).

That being said I asked my mayor about it, and he had never heard of it!!!!!

Any of your guests will look pretty stupid if they are asked for it at their port of entry and are refused admission. I presume you would also recommend that people don’t bring their driving licences either, I can’t remember the last time anyone actually asked to see mine. Only a fool would try to cross an international border without ticking all of the boxes.
