The pronunciation of motor as mo-ah as demonstrated by a certain bleached teeth person on a tv ad.

+ 3.
I used to think I had no problem with English, but in the last 7 years or so I've found myself checking the spelling of bog-standard words so as not to have some French client snorting in derision.

I know the feeling - I have to check I haven't spelt something the French way ("responsable" instead of "responsible", "dis" and not "des" etc etc). A nightmare.

Throw in regional accents as well where they don't talk proper like what I do - and we'll all go barking mad.

Barking? Never lived there but a friend of mine lives in Sowfend.

@Oldblueraincoat But your photography is wonderful and how many 'intellectuals' have that ability?

I can put up with all the above but what I can’t abide is replacing me you and I by myself and yourself. Eg myself and my wife went to Spain - I like cheese, how about yourself? You wouldn’t say “myself went to Spain” because it sounds daft
So myself is respectfully requesting yourself eradicate this American led travesty

I don't know who actually invented the English language but I don't think it was the Americans. So why does UK have to follow every perversion of it and its meanings so faithfully? It didn't take UK teens very long to start speaking like US inner city slum gang members, and adopting their music, dress, and violent pastimes.

Amongst my many pet hates, many of which have already been raised, is the use of « gotten ». I read many books on my kindle and I despair when I come across British authors using it.
