Buying glasses online

OH has real problems with his eyes. His glasses prescription changes every 12 months or so.
His current set of glasses were obtained using the Health service route in France but because our optician is rarely there, I decided to buy a contingency pair online £35 from goggles4u. I placed the order on Saturday and they’re on their way.
We’ll go and see the optician when she comes back from her holidays on Thursday to arrange lens replacements in his current glasses.

I don't have a problem with buying specs online - they're so expensive in France it's ridiculous. The last distance specs I bought I got from ThinLenses. I have no idea whether they still exist but they were excellent. Glasses can always be adjusted in any high street optician, usually without charge.

I've normally used Zennioptical online. Cheap and excellent quality but the big problem is getting a decent prescription to work with. Not going back to UK any more I was forced to use a French source. Three times the price and they're just not right. Still using my old ones made from a ten year old Tesco's prescription.

€16 from carrefour 2.5 lens - near enough.

Mine are free. Reading and long distance. Paid for by MGEN. I can only choose from a basic choice of frames otherwise it costs.

Unfortunately OH has a difference of 1.5 between L and R as he has had 1 cataract treated so it is impossible to get ‘off the shelf’ glasses.

Buy a pair of each prescription and swop lens to make one pair of usable specs. Frames with a screw holding the lens rim closed make it easy to do.

We'd all like free specs but it doesn't help unless you can provide us with MGEN membership!
