And how many businesses will be able to afford this, especially after the pandemic woes (even factoring in expected growth)?

Whilst people will work longer, thus paying into the pension pot (but less if Mme P has her way), because pensions are awarded from final earnings, it is going to put an even bigger burden on the pension pot.
A nightmare like most French finance.

Valerie is the nearest thing to the disgraced Fillon, fairly centrist right which will appeal to many voters who supported Macron last time out. Big question is, will enough French voters want to vote for a woman ?

An issue she has to address concerns pensions: currently, I believe fonctionnaires pensions are calculated on the basis of their last 6 month’s salary so that people get promoted to boost their pensions.
She needs to free up the earning power of French workers by detaxing some overtime and by allowing them to work the hours they can.
Would she tackle these things? The only time they have been tackled is to reduce and regulate and to increase taxes.
As to reducing the number of fonctionnaires, well, to do that the number of fonctions has to be reduced as well as the establishment; has this ever been achieved? My understanding is that the number of regional fonctionnaires has actually increased and that the Unions have managed to fight off any reductions.
Getting rid of entrenched State workers is probably a job that no government has ever achieved.

Reducing functions has to mean reducing regulation, The UK has enjoyed the benefits of that - Grenfell, Banking crisis, Northern Grid and storm Arwen etc. So it has to be done carefully as well as sensitively.

Knowing the price of everything but the value of nothing - or small picture economics. Yep - a succession of UK Governments have been good at that.
But on the flip side when over 50% of GDP is to support the state - is that really good.
I recon only the 6th Republic will sort it, maybe.
