I think the big issue is the next round, which will decide who is going to be the prime minister. No doubt it will not support Macron.

Whilst no fan of Macron (in case no one realised) I have to say he is the least bad option in this time of conflict in Ukraine.

I did two ballot box sessions today, as a friend who is also a councillor had a bad car accident yesterday.
Before the count I was 'joking' with a French born builder called Ahmed about where we would both go if Marine won, and how we and others would react if the village voted Le Pen even if she didn't win nationally.
He stayed through the count and we hugged each other carefully Covid-wise as Macron won here.
As is common in most French villages, once we had cleared up, emptied the wastepaper baskets and dealt with the paperwork corks were pulled and packets of crisps opened. Fixit turned up with two bottles of champers on behalf of all 'les anglais' and we all breathed a sigh of relief.
Phew.

Absolutely - the only world leader who would have welcomed Le Pen as the victor would have been Putin - that says enough to me. Hopefully Macron will listen to criticism and act on it.
