niemeyjt wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 12:54 pm That is sad - they looked like they offered accounts with IBANs in multiple currencies and with a car to withdraw funds.
I take it the 'd' dropped off its perch! Otherwise a car through the post might cause a few logistical problems, unless it's a Dinky.
Wise is not an option either for NS&I or DWP.

UK bank account(s) closure

Another door closed! Applications by both OH and I to open accounts with HSBC have been declined without any reason being given....
As far as I know, HSBC is the only UK bank that will allow (new) non-resident accounts. I should have insisted we add "-ski" or "-ova" to our surnames.
OH's only hope is to add himself to my Nationwide coattails and hope that NW doesn't go down the same route. If it does, we'll have to redeem our Premium bonds which provide a handy and regular income.
Cheers, HoppingMad87.

Sorry to hear that, Mad :(
I don't understand why the UK is being so obstructive to its ex-pats today ... no vote, now bank accounts being closed. Who knows, they might even find a way of taking away our citizenship one day

@MAD87 sorry to hear that. A couple of weeks back we were speaking to a British person who works for a French bank who has the same problems as all of us ie no UK address and has UK bank accounts/savings/NS&I etc. I said try HSBC as to which she replied 'no too many problems with HSBC' which is why I've kept quiet on the subject of HSBC on this thread. Guess she's in the know?

I thought we were already Citizens of Nowhere (according to Mme May when she was still PM). I'm beginning to quite like the term, apart from it meaning that we can do eff all about anything!

We have a joint NatWest account, who so far haven't made any noises about closing. Surely some banks would be thinking of a chance of gain lots of extra customers - it would be worth trying to get through the hassle for that?

If they close (now that we're finally in credit with that account!), hell shall have no fury of me venting my feelings on faceache, for all my brexit-supporting family and friends to see.

It has always been that way, surely.

I thought people were British Subjects - not British Citizens? So those without dual nationality may indeed be citizens of nowhere.
