@ Wilbro, in my case a minimum of four components: coil, tuning capacitor (mica, 500 pF), a diode (germanium, OA 90) and a high impedance headphone or a little crystal earphone. Looking back.

So moving on one of my favorite programs was Out of Town with Jack Hargreaves, I think that was the one where he was sat in some old shed, and sort of discussed various subjects, good clean entertainment. I feel sure he was in the program How as well with Fred Dineage, and a host of others I can't remember, I know there was a woman on the panel.

Change of subject but still a distant memory. Going with my father to buy wallpaper, choosing it and then waiting while the selvedges were trimmed off

I remember that, and can still imagine the smell of the thick lumpy paste that was used to stick it on.

I have always hated wallpaper. I wonder how the expensive muck in No.10 is holding up.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

Dad was a very good decorator (not his job, he was an engineer with an eye for detail). I had to mix the paste by adding the powder to the water slowly so we didn't get lumps.

Another name to remember: Sugden audio. They also produced audio measurement equipment: a low distortion sine oscillator and a distortion measurement bridge. A new project was born: with the inspiration of this Sugden equipment and designs of Sir John Linsley Hood (Wireless World) I started building my own slighly enhanced set. The distortion bridge (down to 0.04%) is still there, more than a wintersleep. Together with a lab power supply, a design as published also in WW.
