Logging in to ebay
Lately we have been unable to log in to ebay (UK or France). After entering username and password we get this message.
"It looks like you signed in from a different computer. We’ll need to confirm your identity. Call us on 2086-100157 and mention security code 92618254019."
I have been using the same computer for about ten years sitting at the same desk at the same address so what the hell is this all about? And how does one dial that number, that doesn't seem like any real phone number I have ever seen? No country or local area code.

On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

I have tried logging in on the USA site but get the same message. On the plus side, it gives a proper USA phone number for help. Now I have tried adding the USA dialling code and several variations but still get a French recorded message. Haven't a clue what it says, far too fast as usual.

I have tested and can log into US site - but I am asked to confirm my (UK) phone number and e-mail - then get in.
So have you registered a phone number with ebay for 2FA? Maybe that is source of your issue?

They have my phone number. And at one point while I was clicking through various FAC nonsense a page came up saying they need to confirm its me. They have sent a security code to my phone number. My phone doesn't receive texts or SMS so that is another dead end.

Over an hour now I have been trying to get past a damned chatbot. No way to get contact with a human or an email address to make contact, inspite of clicking on several so-called Contact buttons.

Keep telling the chatbot that it is not helping solve the problem and restate the problem. They are programmed to pass you to a person after it fails x times. x may be a big number however.
I had the same issue with HP and eventually the chatbot replied, "would you like to talk to a person?"
Thinks, you bet
Replies, "yes please"
long wait to get through but eventually problem resolved.

Maybe in your world mon ami, but here beyond Saturn's outermost ring it doesn't work. I battled on with the same chatbot repeatedly asking to speak to a human to no avail. I tried every option offered to me and they all end up linking me to a log in page that I cannot utilise.
I have just sent a complaint to the spoof@ebay address in the hopes it might trigger some useful response.

Cracked it!
After a long Googling session I happened across a link to a thread on ebay community addressing the problem. Someone logging in to ebay UK getting sent to ebay USA. I just happened to read through the replies and someone went to great lengths to explain it was probably due to ebay's security system getting a bit fussy with cookies, Java, and not liking some older browsers and the bookmarks placed in them. He listed three alternative log in page (variations) to try and one of them worked for me. I have now reset all my bookmards to this new link.
Actually No. It only worked the one time. I have tried all four browsers, allowing all cookies, and being very nice to any request for personal info. I shall have to find other sources of shopping.

Been at it for a full six hours now and I give up. I can finally get logged into ebay France but not into the UK site. No luck with chatbots, or live call centre people (mostly in India) who go through their well-rehearsed script before saying they will send my details to their dedicated technical team who will contact me.
I am ready to close my UK account and draw a line under it but I can't do that without logging in.
Such a shame the French site contains only a fraction of the items on the UK one.

In the end I have simply abandoned my UK account and by devious means registered a new one. Seems to work OK. Glad I'm not a seller with a reputation to uphold.
