I think I read that there are grants available for housing upgrades which might apply.
Maybe someone on here might know & pass on info.

Try going to your local Mairie, Hotrodder. I knew a couple on low income who got help with installing a new fosse septique, but they've left France so I can't ask on your behalf. Good luck.

I've found something that might help you Hotrodder. Agency Nationale l'amélioration de Habitat. They help finance the installation of new fosse septiques if the house is more than 15 years old and it's your principal residence.

Thank you both for your suggestions. I had a go with the two links. The help mentioned seems to be mostly about energy upgrading. I have already installed double glazing, and done a bit of loft insulation, I was told previously that there is no aid for my type of roof, I have dry-lined and insulated most of downstairs, and the floor. Offers of help to replace old CH is of no use because we only have a wood burner (which is reasonably new). No mention of help for a fosse system. One of the links I chased mentions a zero interest loan that can be authorised for fosse work as long as it doesn't involve electricity. On the same page it states that a lift pump would be OK. Maximum €10,000 offered to be repaid over maximum 15 years. It would all come down to how much the monthly payments would have to be and our life expectancy beyond 76.

All very difficult to figure out, especially with having to translate tons of it. I recall about ten years ago having a go at aid but came up against a brick wall being passed back and forth between different departments and filling out countless forms that mostly turned out to be the wrong forms even though they were sent by the office concerned.

I think this will have to wait because I am still battling to locate a doctor to issue an ordnance for our regular meds.

I hear what you say about never ending form filling. It's as if they want you to fail. Most people give up, I know I would. Best of luck in finding a doctor. Far more important than the fosse septique.

Update: We found a new doctor today and he seems OK. We got lucky.
