Jacinda Ardern resigns

My in-laws live in New Zealand, so naturally an interest in what goes on there ....

Jacinda Ardern's been New Zealand's PM for nearly 6 years, and she gave birth during this time, only the second elected leader to do so while in office. But the job has taken its toll and she's citing burn-out for resigning.
BBC wrote:She steered New Zealand through the Covid-19 pandemic and its ensuing recession, the Christchurch mosque shootings, and the White Island volcanic eruption.
The press made the most of her meeting with Sanna Marin, the Finnish PM because they are both striking, young women. No doubt they have both had a bumpy ride while in office because of this. Jacinda Ardern is on the right.

A shame. By all accounts, she's been an excellent ambassador for her country.

I’m hearing very polarised opinions about this, some say it’s a tragedy and bad for the country, others say she’s left because she’s wrecked NZ. There’s been more deaths than there should have been ,the economy is a mess and she’s gone because she would have lost by a landslide next time. I don’t know what to believe

Assuming "more deaths" relates to Covid, then NZ has one of the lowest per capita death rates of countries where you can believe the validity of the numbers. So those claiming more deaths must expect a Utopian life-style - which to be fair NZ has been closer to than many other countries.

I just read a comment that said the strict lock downs resulted in more deaths than if they had been more relaxed .I honestly don’t know what I think

However, I understood the lockdown was so severe even NZ nationals were forbidden from returning home.

With a population of just over 5 million, and with NZ being an island, it seemed logical at the time to try to isolate it. She hasn't had an easy run with the White Island volcano disaster, the Christchurch terrorist attack and Covid putting the kybosh on some of the reforms she had hoped to carry out. Who know if another PM would have managed any better.
She seemed to be impressive internationally even if her popularity was dwindling at home.
