That is what happens when energy policy is driven by a petulant Swedish teenager. We now need, across Europe, to see what decisions can be reversed before next winter - otherwise, we may see some serious shortages.

In the UK I hear Grant Shapps has said there will not be issues in the UK. A bit like the way he sorted the ferries during P&O's hiatus I suspect.

Apparently the French electricity system is under tension this winter due in particular to the low availability of the nuclear fleet, linked to a heavy maintenance schedule, further disrupted by the 2020 confinements. Twenty-seven nuclear reactors out of 56 are currently unavailable.

The appeal to the French public (inc. industry) to reduce consumption between 7-10 a.m. yesterday was widespread in the media. Overnight Sun/Mon it was -7° here. I got up late and didn't start my PC until 9.45 as my contribution.
It won't be the last appeal! The Loony Left, especially the Greens and François Hollande, wanted us out of nuclear power without provision for a viable, affordable alternative.

No email received here nor anything on local radio which raises the question of whether the problem at the moment is impacting the distribution networks rather than a shortage of electricity per se.
