What did you want to be when you grew up?

Just been talking to my sister who reminded me, "I wanted to be a 'maker' like my dad".
Dad was a fitter & turner at the local bus garage who I thought could make anything.

When very young an engine driver of course and as a young teenager a footballer. The latter happened of course but nowhere near the level I would have liked!

A nurse? A vet? A ballet dancer? It changed daily. My parents were both in higher education and pushed that as a 'secure profession for a girl', so of course, I wanted nothing to do with it. I sort of fell into it by happy accident when the influences were not parental but circumstantial. On the whole, I loved being a teacher, but I wouldn't enter the profession now. Nor a nurse. Nor a ballet dancer. Perhaps ........... I'd still have loved to be a vet.

A writer, or run a game reserve full of cheetahs.

I had no idea - still don't other than whatever to get me through life

The only thing I ever fancied being was an archaeologist. Failing that, rich.
Neither of the two aspirations happened.

A seafarer, like my previous countless generations, or lorry driver, really I just wanted to be a wanderer and I certainly have achieved that generally and the others, particularly.
I never ever wanted to be an engine driver, couldn't relate to being unable to change direction of course, or being able to stop at speed in less than a mile.

A train driver, then a diplomat (that was never going to happen was it) for the foreign travel, then a teacher.

Thankfully common sense took over.

And now in advancing years I no longer want to grow up.
