Very sad - but also poor journalism. He would have collapsed around midnight - so not sure it would have been a "bustling street" at that time of night.

Tragic, but far from the first time this has happened. Many years ago, I came across a man who had fallen on the stairs going down to the tube at Oxford Circus. Everyone was walking round him or stepping over him. His head was bleeding and he was unconscious. I got one of the railway staff to call for an ambulance. I don't know how long he'd been there but it was shocking to see how callous people can be. He was well-dressed and didn't smell of drink not that that should have made ay difference.
I couldn't imagine not checking on someone who had fallen but sadly that instinct isn't universal. Same with a car or motorbike in a ditch ....

That is very sad but I can quite understand. A couple of years back on the way to the bins I trod on a large piece of stone that I hadn't noticed. My ankle gave way and I ended up on the flat on the ground not quite in the fosse. Struggling to get up cos I can't get onto my knees I was amazed that a driver of a French Land Rover swerved & drove straight on. Fortunately I had my mobile and rang the OH to come and help - I was only about 500 m from the house luckily and we're in the campagne no where near Paris!

Yes, "non assistance à une personne en danger". But like everything, it has to be proved that someone didn't help ....

It is not at all clear to me where this "busy" Paris Street is. The article does not say but does show emergency workers demonstrating outside the National Assembly but is that the link?

It was on Rue de Turbigo. But as I say, just because it is busy and bustling during the day does not mean it is at midnight and the early hours of the morning.
