UK attendance allowance

#1 Post by hughnique »

A couple in the village, who retired here about 20 years ago, are returning back to blighty, the normal medical reasons, albeit I would prefer the French healthcare system to the NHS, but that's their choice. Upon speaking with their son, he mentioned the fact that they both have mobility problems, no transport of their own, and are both suffering with life threatening ailments, so the question of attendance allowance came up, he tells me that there is a 3 year qualifying period before this can be claimed, is that true?

Does this help?
https://www.gov.uk/attendance-allowance/eligibility

There are some benefits that can be claimed if living in the eea with a Brexit carte de séjour but I can’t see attendance allowance on the list.

Seems his info is correct then, must be resident for 2 of the last three years, but does that mean that they can claim after 2 years, we all doubt that either of them will be alive by that time. Seems to be an exception for migrants and refugees though, absolute joke in my opinion.

Point of order...according to the charming people at the CPAM Agen, Brits are migrants. Even when they've applied for and gained French nationality they're 'migrants permanents'. CdS holders are just migrants

But how else should we be described?

I have in the past pointed out, that since my migration to Europe was because of my work, I am an economic migrant.

But then some migrants are good and others, it seems, are bad.

Did that information come from the same type of newspaper that claim that all ‘illegals’ live in five star hotels and eat steak every day or is it perhaps that as migrants seeking asylum are forbidden to be allowed to work they are eligible for benefits?
I’ve got no trouble with being considered to be a migrant because that’s what I am. I’ve also crossed the English Channel many times in small boats because despite of what you might have heard it is not and never has been illegal.

Well personally, I would have preferred 'naturalised French' or even 'd'origine Britannique'. The Maire of our commune was disgusted enough to take it up with the boss of the CPAM

The information I think you refer to comes direct from the government websites supplied above. I think people need to get a grip on these loose terms such as "refugee" and "asylum seekers". To me that is someone fleeing from their homeland because of persecution, such as a war, you can't tell me that the thousands coming in to the UK on rubber dinghy's are all dispossessed beings, absolutely skint. They manage to troll across vast expanses, whilst being able to feed themselves, and then shell out loads of money to people smugglers, then manage to supposedly claim benefits from a country where they have never contributed anything in to, even UK born and bred citizens have a job to get that.
