I remember this tree by Hadrians Wall from many years ago and was horrified to read this story of sheer vandalism.

Dreadful. I remember a developer doing thiis in Hampshire years ago after being refused permission to fell centuries-old trees. He went in with a chain saw one night but was not punished properly.

How very sad. I’ve loved that sycamore for years, first saw it on walk from Hexham on my Duke of Edinburgh’s award walk, at just about the same age as the youngster police have arrested.

It’s vandalism, pure and simple, maybe done for a dare. The youngster can’t possibly know how very many people around the world he’s upset, affronted, made extremely angry.

What a perfect photo the sycamore made in all sorts of weather - I can’t believe I won’t see it again.
