We've had a couple of Nile cruises on Viking 1 & 2 which were old very small twin ships (boats?) which took about 25 folk on each & ran in convoy to different destinations for daily excursions.
Brilliant holidays mixing guided sightseeing with slowly wandering down the Nile drinking beer & watching things go by with excellent personal service by staff.
We'd go again if things were not so fragile & the boats still existed but alas nothing remains the same.

Excellent food & company each time.
Agreed. I took a boat trip down the Nile way back in the 90's and absolutely loved it. But as far as I'm concerned that bore no relation to the Multi pool, multi restaurant, fun fair on the upper deck leviathons they now call cruise ships.

I had Luxor/Aswan belly whilst there and one of my steward's duties was to give me a belly massage to ease the pain! At least that's what he told me :o I swear it worked!

The Icon of the Seas almost dwarfs the Queen Victoria, already impressive at first sight. Or only different shades of grey?

Only a very vague recollection. I was very busy at the time with another restoration. I had little interest in the news when I lived there.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

LNG boil-off is used as fuel and excess is re-liqufied by compressors back to the tanks. more problems are from those thousands of bums squirting poo. sewage is treated to required standards, but only when systems are working correctly.
We had a sewage treatment plant on a drillship working in the N Atlantic which never worked properly. It was shut down most of the time, as when its buffer tank was full it tended to back up into the user areas, causing consternation. This apparently happened because it couldn't treat the material as fast as it arrived.

When the Coastguard came to inspect it the Chief Engineer had it set up to show an impressive panel of lights, which suited the Coastguard fine. He only went as far as the doorway, as the space was a bit on the nose. He gave it the OK every time.

OH and took an afternoon cruise on it last summer.
The video in the link bears absolutely no resemblance to what we encountered.
I wrote about it at the time. I could see if is postable, maybe…

Never again.

All along the watchtower, Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix were right after all: "There must be some kinda way out of here Said the joker to the thief There's too much confusion I can't get no relief"

Always look on the bright side of life of course: so many daily surprises to keep your brain sharp. I'm having doubts however about my willingness to embrace every element of modern life and tourism.

Only window shopping...
