France in Focus

We've just returned from a trip to the UK. Our first in 2 years. It is no wonder that the UK incidence rate is so high. It seems as though a large part of the UK population believe the pandemic is over. We saw Halloween parties with 30 or 40 people and kids stuffed into a village hall. Mask wearing a rarity even where it was requested. It's a shame.
The formalities of immigration and testing were straight forward. We each had a clear plastic folder with the vaccine certificate showing one side and passports etc showing on the front. The BF check in clerk queried my wife's maiden name on her vaccine cert. But she had a marriage cert as well. She seemed that she wanted to argue the point and told us we should get it changed. We told her we had tried. On entering France no problems whatsoever and the Immigration officer even said "Bonne Journee et bon retour" which I thought was charming. I love England but I felt a warm glow when I entered France.

Coincidentally, I had an email from a cousin in Chichester yesterday on this very subject. She said no one wears a mask and distancing was old history.
Hardly surprising with Worzel giving the lead to a sleeping population.

No masks in Jersey either though one exception was Specsavers who insisted on it which was fine by us.

Can you wonder at it, these are the people that voted to leave the EU, so common sense is hardly a prerequisite, every night they give out the figures on the news, they are all absolutely blasé about it.

Trust me - it is not unique to the UK. Here we have many idiots (normally falling into two categories) who either fail to mask up or wear it on their chin when it's obligatory on public transport.

Very rarely have I seen the total absence of a mask here in France, and then you don't know whether they are exempt, as for the positioning, that certainly leaves a lot to be desired, even when we went to get our 1st Covid jab, some old biddy came in to the waiting room with it round her chin, OH quickly informed her that she needed to adjust it, which she did with a great deal of mumbling and moaning.

As wearing the mask below the nose has been compared to not wearing underpants correctly, it has brought a whole new meaning to the term "dick-head!"

Usually when I see someone wearing a mask below their nose, it's a bloke ......

I rarely mix with the public - as OH does most of the shopping (being the chef!), but thankfully when I do go out, masks everywhere, even in the carpark when people are far apart.

Exactly! So gross! I put my mask on and adjusted it to below the nose, just to see what it felt like.... It just feels so wrong!
