France in Focus

We have been looking after 2 small dogs for someone who returned to the UK. They were going to pick them up when they had found either a property to rent that would allow dogs, or they purchased a property. It has now been 3 months and unfortunately, we cannot continue to look after them. They have both been chipped and we have their passports and the "owners" are willing to complete the paperwork to officially transfer them to a new suitable owner. They have always been together and must therefore be kept as a pair. One is a Chihuahua cross and the other a daschund possible cairn terrier cross. They have excellent temperaments and can be left for reasonable lengths of time if necessary. Overnight they both sleep from 10pm until 8am. We have a large cage, bedding and leads etc which we will supply.
We are in central Brittany.

Not sure what you mean by a 'genuine enquiry' [mention]sparkyjo[/mention] , I hope this falls into the category. Can you say what their ages are, how they are with other dogs (male and female), are they escapers (if so jumpers, climbers or diggers), gender, and can they be off lead with immediate recall in open country?

I am a medium/large dog person myself, but all of the above may help you in your quest.

They are not that far from us and we would have seriously considered having them but we already have one. I do hope someone will come along and take them both together. They will have suffered enough trauma being left with strangers and splitting them up would be cruel.

Thanks for your replies. More info as follows: they are both male and are very good together. The chihuahua escaped through small holes in the garden fence when we first got them, but once we blocked them, no problems and, since they are only small, don't jump very high. They have never dug any holes in the garden or chewed/scratched the furniture. When we first took them home they settled in quickly. We take them for a half hour walk daily - that seems to be enough for them - on leads. Haven't let them off the leads, but don't think it would be long before they'd respond to instruction. They are good guard dogs, letting you know if anyone comes close to the house. During walks they have occasionally met up with other dogs and had no problems.

Hopefully, anyone interested, is now armed with sufficient info to make an informed decision.

It might help someone who is getting on in years, if you could also say the dogs' ages. A young dog isn't always ideal for an elderly human.

Also do you have any photos you can post, that always helps.

The dogs have now been taken by Green Valley Brittany. They have someone who will give them a forever home. We took them to Callac this morning and neither of us was prepared for how we felt. It was really difficult to say goodbye to them and we both wanted to say we had changed our mind and would keep them, but due to my health being affected it wasn't possible. We can now only hope and pray that their new home will be as welcoming as ours was.
