New one on me (on a very nice bottle of SA chenin blanc).

Well if they didn't switch our street lamps off at 11pm we might stay a bit safer on the road.

@Sparkle spot
We don't want any street lamps here thank you. The night sky is beautiful without light pollution.

@Wilbro oh I totally agree with you these lamps are awful and not necessary especially as our village is minuscule and very very rarely is anyone seen out after dark not since the only bar/shop that we had was closed in 2007 where we did have some excellent evenings and at the time were warned about leaving after 11pm due to not being able to see a thing - and they were quite correct - we had to borrow a torch as we are at the opposite end of the village to the bar. More annoyingly though is that they switch on at 6am for one hour which if the shutters are open disturbs the cat as well as the humans :D

With you on that one, but we can see the pretty lights down in the valley though. :D

We'll never have street lights here. Our nearest neighbours are about 1km away and it's about 8km to a small town where there are lights. I don't remember the last time we went there at night and saw anyone needing to have street lights on. Once everyone is indoors, the shutters close and no-one seems to venture out. Our part of France is closed for the night.

I'm more than likely missing something but what's with the @sparkle spot - the spot bit? :D

A few months ago 'they' took away all but one of the six street lights in our little Lieu Dit.
Suits me fine except I now have to take a torch when our cat Chancy is not in after dark & I'm ordered out to check she's not lying squished in the road.
Silly really as she runs for home at the first sound of a car having been 'tapped' by one when very young, has never forgotten it & is more likely to be found sleeping with the chooks. She recovered well from a torn shoulder ligament & was named after the French word 'chanceux'.
