Was it from a uk or american article? Having a cousin who has lived in the usa all her life and hear the stories she tells, think it originates from over there.
A long time ago she said that she had gone veggie, (she used to be a red steak eater) when I asked why she replied "would you eat any american meat"
Problem is these days with prepacked/prepared foods everywhere, no one knows exactly whats in them, something which we never purchase apart from meusli and milk for mami.

A google translation of the quote into French helps a lot ..
apart from the bit underlined.

If you swap 'tester' pour 'éprouver' then that bit makes more sense too.
So I guess the original might have been in French then, as Char says, put through a machine translator .. there are some which are poor.

Seems a bit contradiction to me.
When there was such an uproar here when the usa banned unpasteurised cheeses or anything else, them purchasing so much, suddenly lait cru cheese went out of shops but soon came back after the furor by the French.
Now theres even more of it than before, as posted its all I buy out of choice.
