Why is it so difficult?

At lunchtime today I pulled out a drawer on the freezer of our 2 1/2 year old fridge/freezer & thousands of bits of glass dropped to the floor. It was the glass shelf (clayette) which must have come out with the drawer & possibly shattered with the suden change of temperature.
Any road, "it'll be easy to get another" I thought, & started Googling.
Four hours later & despite there being lots of online spares businesses I still can't find what I want.
I've put in every bit of info & sure enough there are dozens of the things but so far only one has actually stated a size & all insist on giving a reference number for the product which, in the absense of a parts list, is useless to me. Make & model number of the machine is all I have.
Tomorrow it's a phone call to BUT where we bought the thing & if they can't help I'll try the manufacturers for a reference.
It's only a bit of glass which appears to be 40 x 17 cm but boy is it giving me some grief.

Have you got a miroiterie / vitrerie near you ? There's a brilliant one in Saint-Malo who can supply just about anything you'd ever want in glass.

Dunno but thanks for the thought. This is some sort of toughened glass.
Sorted for now as I've just cut a piece of plywood to fit so the drawers work OK.

Yes but you cannot cut toughened glass, you have to cut "Normal" glass then heat treat it to make toughened.

In our previous house, the glass on our wood stove (insert) cracked one day - in summer. I got a replacement cut at Weldom for about 10% of the manufacturer's cost. Toughened glass?

Reading about glass types I'd say this is some form of tempered glass as it shattered into very small pieces like car windows.

I think the last post is correct and tempered glass is used.
I use ESpares (UK and France) a lot for replacement bits and pieces. The prices are very different at times - the last things I got, France was by far the cheaper. Anyway, if you look up a part on their website, by make and model, there is a button to press on the page that lists the compatible models for that part ..... might help clarify. Good luck.

To clear things up Toughened glass and Tempered glass are the same, and as said you cannot cut them, the glass for stove's are actually a clear ceramic, so a type of glass which you can cut, if you want a challenge try cutting laminated glass, you need a glass cutter and some meths

Thats not for you to drink unless you are from Siberia
