There’s not one brand that allows me to buy everything I need under one roof.

That's the trouble. And even worse if you are trying to count the pennies. Lidl can be a pain at times. When we find a particular item there that we really like, at a good price they stop selling it.

We have just discovered a Casino tucked away down a side street in our nearest town. We give it a shot every now and then. I can't help but feel sorry for them. They offer a decent range and they keep it nice and clean, etc. but we have never seen more than half a dozen customers in there. It might be different on a Friday pm or Saturday but who in their right mind shops then?

Like some others, we start at Lidl for the cheaper items and then on to either Carrefour or Intermarche for the items Lidl don't sell.

Here's a question for you guys. At most checkouts there are two belts to move the shopping along. One leading up to the cashier and another to take the goods from there to the end where you are loading the trolley. I have never, ever seen that second belt actually moving. It would be a help if it was.

If you can walk from one shop to another one, that's alright, but if you have to drive around, isn't that defeating the object of saving money At Super U there is just one belt leading to the till, and then a downhill slope with rollers built in to your packing area.

Lidl don't need a second belt, it normally arrives for packing by air mail, the way they sling it down the rollers at you. Evidently they have to process so many items in a minute, and yes stuff is on sale one minute and gone the week after never to be seen again, like job lots and end of line stuff. Curry sauces, nan breads, canon of lamb not seen them in there for years.

I'm oh so aware of the way the lidl till jockey heaves the stuff down the ramp. One day she will have a real mess to clean up when a bottle of red smashes.
