Just in case you're thinking of visiting here - France limits visitors in effort to save loved beach in Calanques near Marseille https://www.france24.com/en/europe/2022 ... -marseille

That can only be a good thing. Erosion caused by huge numbers of people walking is becoming more and more widespread and limiting the numbers seems sensible. I've seen other areas of the French coast where fairly discreet fencing has been erected but sometimes people climb over them, ignoring the signs explaining why they are in place. Tourism sometimes destroys what brought them there in the first place.

Yep, 'tas happened to lots of places hasn't it - such a shame. :(
It looks a very nice beach, I can see why it's popular.

I went there many many years ago, it was beautiful with nothing like the crowds you see today, particularly if you went out of the main French summer holidays.

Having had a few business lunches in the restaurants there or there abouts, the problem is not foot erosion but rather parking. Everyone arrives by car (of course, no public transport except to the very few bays where there is a railway station) and the roads are very narrow. That is of course before you have continuous parking down one side or the other.
