It seems that Miss France 2024 has caused a stir because she has short hair! And it is being called a "victory for diversity".
As someone who remembers Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffanies, I think there is nothing new in a pixie cut.
Maybe if a hairstyle is considered "diversity" then it goes some way to understanding why real diversity issues are still not addressed. I see only the contestants from the Dom-Toms are not white.

I'm surprised this stupid contest still goes on "in this day and age". Uch! Surely women don't feel they need to do this anymore?
As for diversity, how lame is her reason?
This
much!

No, I'm sure they don't ! But for some, it's a way to fame and fortune. The woman who has taken over the organisation after the death of Geneviève de Fontenay is a former Miss France, Sylvie Tellier (2002). Can you imagine the outcry if the organiser was a man ?
Many a former "Miss" has found the pageantry a useful springboard to become a model, a singer, an actress .... Others stick to their chosen career path or disappear into obscurity. They all know the score when they get into it.
Women are not forced into it, it's their choice !! This year, I understand that the jury consisted of women.

I seem unable to post links from YouTube Music these days but "Miss France" by Helmut Fritze always amused me.

Having seen pictures of her and her other contestants she was IMHO not the most deserving of this accolade, its the ladies choice to show off their assets, same as its the men's choice to wear even less
in their various Mr Muscle competitions, this was supposed to be a beauty pageant, to be won by the most beautiful female there, assuming the are all still females
I would not have picked this one, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder so it goes, I think some of the judges should have gone to Specsavers

I don't see what's so controversial about her having short hair. Around here pretty much all women over the age of 20 wear there hair so short they could be mistaken for men. And where it used to be subject to a really bad patchy matchstick red dye job it is now universally ash grey. Depressing really.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

It's fun. It would be even more fun if there was a genuinely equivalent competition for men. It's always been a source of disgust to me that men are allowed to plaster calendars and posters all over their place of work, but woe betide a woman who puts up a gay calendar (because AFAIK that's all that is available) or at a pinch a racy Pompiers one. Why can't we 'celebrate' the finer specimens of humanity? Lord knows there's enough ugliness in the world, without wallowing in it.
