Far right surge in EU elections
Meanwhile:
Israel and Ukraine
The hard-Left France Unbowed party (LFI) and centre-Left Socialist Party managed to patch up their differences on the divisive subject of the war in Gaza in the coalition talks.
Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the LFI leader, is seen as soft on Hamas and Vladimir Putin, the Russian president.
But the New Popular Front called for continued arms deliveries to Ukraine. It also pledged to push for the cancellation of Ukrainian foreign debt, the seizure of oligarchs’ assets and sending peacekeepers to secure nuclear power stations.
The manifesto promises to support the International Criminal Court in its prosecution of Hamas leaders and Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister.
It also calls for the immediate recognition of the state of Palestine, a ceasefire in Gaza, and for sanctions on Israel for breaking international law, including an embargo on arms deliveries.
While the New Popular Front says the hostages held by Hamas must be freed, it also wants to end French support “for Netanyahu’s extreme Right-wing supremacist government”

Far right surge in EU elections
I read a statistic elsewhere that the RN only polled a total 400k votes more than the NFP alliance.....making it pretty difficult to ge a majority next Sunday with all the horse trading going on.

Well in percentage terms, it is quoted as 33% vs 28%
So if 5% of electorate is 400K - then only 8M voted.
As 67% voted, this makes total electorate 12M.

Far right surge in EU elections
"I was intrigued by the high turnout for the first round last Sunday - nearly 33 millions - 66%.
The surge didn't seem to profit any of the 3 major parties however.
RN only had a 400 000 head on the NFP : 9 377 297 to 8 974 566."
decipher it how you like.

I cannot decypher it - is is mathematically incorrect.
The 9.3M of 33M is 28% - the vote of the NFP.
The 8.9M of 33M is 27%.
Don't base your bets on the next round on anything said in wherever you read that !!!!!

It's a figure widely reported. How it computes I have no idea. ( this from radio France international).
The party of Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella topped the poll with 33.15 percent of the votes cast, ahead of the left-wing New Popular Front (NFP) alliance on 28.14 percent, and President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist Ensemble coalition on 20.76 percent.
RN and its allies obtained around 9.3 million votes – more than double that of the previous legislative elections in 2022.
It qualified for the second round in 455 of France’s 577 constituencies and came out on top in 297 of them.

I recon it is the number of votes needed to be turned in the most winnable constituencies - given some were won in round one. That might explain the figures.

Depends really on how many supporters of parties who've withdrawn will vote against the RN. There are many who see JLM as much an evil option as MLP, inc. my OH. I've got my work cut out before Sunday.
