I assume by "people like you" you mean French people voting in a French election in France will be to blame for the outcome - isn't that how the current system works? - it's not the best system but it is what it is and having to make a choice between the lesser of 2 evils, as has been the case since the 1960's, does occasionally result in good and very bad Presidents.

I'm sure that the majority of the French electorate will not be considering the plight of 'Brits' on Sunday when casting their vote. In any event there should be no cause for concern as Macron will be re-elected and this should be MLP's Last Hurrah!

That certainly isn't a foregone conclusion on either count.
I take the view that all candidates for high office have a certain arrogance - it comes with the territory. Personally, the policies put forward count more for me.

I would just add I would want a box "none of the above" - and if that was over 50% then rerun - with new candidates.

Exactly my view, voting should be compulsory, along with an option to deny all of the candidates. It would at least reduce the number of 'can't be bothered to vote' brigade. I too have made strenuous efforts to vote all my life, even when on the other side of the world I always made arrangements, I viewed it as such a privilege and duty, so having it stolen from me without any say on my part, was particularly hard to bear.

I'm sure that I ticked a number of boxes at the nationalisation interview, when asked some main reasons for wanting to be French.
