There are some stables not far from here so when the bum followers go past and leave the droppings, there's a fight to go out and collect it ! Wonder why they don't do it for dog poo ?

Time for my morning rant! Let's drag this old thread up-to-date with it's ultimate "sh*tservice".

We've just received our bill for this year's joke of rubbish collection with SMD. Of course it's gone up, naturally. So, despite not using all our "ouvertures" last year, they haven't credited us (why would they?), and haven't adjusted the amount we use for this year (again, why would they?). So where is the incentive to put less rubbish in the black bins? We may as well make life easier for ourselves (ie, not traipsing up to the top field with food rubbish), and just use all our allowance? I doubt if I request a reduction in ouvertures they'll do it - unless we say there's only two people at home now, and ignore our son's existence. I pity those who have to put smelly black bags in their nice cars - our's goes in the back of the van and gets disposed of on the way to work. Dog forbid if you get a leak .....

Rant over, but grrrrr!! 300€ - I guess we're paying for those black bags littered around the collection points by those who don't pay/have a card.

Oh yes, ours was not much less than yours (we are only 2 people). I asked the question about whether unused openings (that you had a right to) would carry over to the next year. I was told no. However, our Mayor changed the system somewhat after the overall outrage.

He got rid of the bins using the cards and put in bins that used keys. Issued everyone keys and a certain amount of 'red' trash bags. It is still a regulated system and we'll see how it goes when you run out of red bags. I asked at the Mairie if additional red bags would come at an additional cost. The answer was no and I could pick up a new roll at their office (Mairie). She pointed to a big box full of red trash bag rolls. She did point out that if I came in in April after having used all the bags I was allotted in January (that were supposed to last for the year of 2024), they would question it.

We are now in June and we still have a fair bit of red bags. However, I'm sure by August we will probably run out.

We can supposedly put 'black' trash bags in the bins located within the town. I was given a specific key fob for those bins also I have yet to try that.

Seems quite a complicated system for something that used to be so basic.

And yes, a lot of people just leave trash bags and even recycle products beside the bins.

Maybe some enterprising soul will find out who manufactures the red bags and buy a batch to sell on the "black" market.

I've been waiting for that. OH says Amazon.fr sells the red trash bags. However, the SIRTOM have plastered a specific number on each red trash bag, along with their own logo. I presume this is to avoid 'fake' bags being sold. Though I'm sure an enterprising soul could replicate that. But, I'm confident SIRTOM would stop them getting sold in any public fashion (Amazon, supermarket).

300€ is a helluva lot for rubbish collection! We pay 120€/year and leave the red bag (no bins here) outside the garage. We used to have 2 collections/week but Veolia hiked the price so much the commune renegotiated and opted for once weekly. The price went down, much to my surprise.

As in the UK, when the rubbish charges go up too much, so does fly tipping.

I read in a local journal that around 35% of people in the Perigueux area have not registered to pay these charges, consequently there are vast numbers of black bags left by or near the bins.
