I think the big issue is the next round, which will decide who is going to be the prime minister. No doubt it will not support Macron.

We were at a party last night held on the pavement by our local Irish friends. Lots of French neighbours a few Irish and a few English. At 9pm there was a loud cheer - OH nipped home and came back with two bottles of champagne......and everyone was very happy Having been asked by the neighbours had we voted and saying no cos we're not allowed I was then asked what did I think. My reply was if MMLP wins we're moving to Spain - for some reason they found that extremely funny

But isn't it from the largest party in the parliament, after elections in 2 months' time? I recall Chirac had to select Jospin back in the 90s for this reason.

Will LREM still control Parliament - or will we get another cohabitation, maybe with RN as MLP was hinting in her speeches yesterday?

I suspect things will be a lot more difficult for Macron this time because the legislatives could well result in a strong Le Pen and Mélenchon opposition.

Exactly - I too think that LREM will be pushed into 3rd place. My money's on Mélenchon.

Manon Aubrey, one of Melenchon's colleagues was just on R4 at lunch (13h25) - lamenting the Presidential results and the lack of a common Socialist candidate (him!) - and talking of the Parliamentary elections in June.

The left would likely have won if they had all got together. In the 1st round of voting the left (when all added together) got more votes than anyone else. However, with a couple of exceptions including JLM, the leaders of leftist parties decided not to get together, so their vote was split too many ways! Unfortunately they have only themselves to blame. If they had it would have likely been JLM (or other left of centre candidate) v Macron yesterday, not MLP.

The was a left Primary a number of months ago which JLM refused to be part of, which he would likely have easily won, so again, he has lost out because of that. Others on the left took part but would not accept one candidate. Are there too many left of centre parties in France?

Yesterday some left voters had to vote for Macron as they only had Le Pen or abstention as their choices. Some did abstain (including blanc and nul) however some did vote Le Pen, which I don't understand. If you are left of centre, how do you vote extreme right when there is at least a centerist option?
