@p4psb - my experience also regarding changing things. The local opinion seems to be that the old addresses will be good for:

a

couple

of

generations!

Funny how the bills will still find their way to your door. 8-)
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

The sooner people wake up to what3words the better!

The likes of mountain rescue services in UK are using it to excellent effect.

Example: The doorstep of my old house in France!

Geo location = coordinates also works - which I now add to our address.

'People' may have woken up to it. Delivery companies and businesses haven't!

Most people in delivery services haven't a clue about coordinates.

The UK postcode with the house number as a prefix will, usually, things delivered in the UK.

Well Someone locally in Chronopost understands coordinates. After 3 days of sorry we could not deliver today followed by a "more information on delivery address required" message. Day 4 and they delivered after the coordinates had been given.

Funnily enough we don't have a UK postcode here in deepest Ardeche but I hear elsewhere that those who live in the UK have problems with drivers who do not deliver to the correct postcode - like me in some cases not even to the right town.

For around 16 years our address consisted of House Name, Postcode, Commune. Simple. Admittedly the house is on the outer edge of the commune and 8 km from the town, but mostly we were found or I could talk the occasional delivery driver in if they rang for help. Then about 3 years ago we were allocated a number. It made no sense because if someone didn't know where the house was, prefixing it with a 2 was of no help whatsoever. Then the powers that be decided to remove the house name which had been Le Beau de St X (I know the name makes no sense, but that's another story), and replace it with St X. As if that were not confusing enough they then changed the name of our commune. There are 3 St Xs close to each other. We are one - just the one house. Another has also just the one house but is in a different commune and the third has two houses - neither of which is number 2. So now (especially online) we usually have an acceptable mishmash of our former address, a mixture of the former and new addresses, or solely the new address. Some online sites though don't even recognise any of those.

Usually when delivery drivers are lost and ring for help, their first question is Ou etes-vous? Well, we're here. More to the point is Ou etes-vous? If I'm lucky they can tell me and I can talk them in. If I'm unlucky, they haven't a clue where they are and resort to descibing what they can see - which in deepest, darkest France is not generally very helpful as it mostly looks the same! But usually, I can direct them and we have a laugh when they eventually arrive.

Similar problem here, as we built this house in a field it was always known as the fields name, then we became number 2, some parcels go to another house six miles away, or we have to go to a collection point, one was 30 miles away  so now we use the fields name and the number 2  so far so good, nice enamelled sign burgundy background white number, what your colours? we have seen a few differant combination's.

Two deliveries Saturday Colis Prive, man turned up in a rented Europacar van, came straight here no problem, Thicko from Chronotoss rings up and I asked if he was lost again, he mumbled SuperU and that was that, so I have not got a clue where it is, and I refuse to go chasing around France, when I am paying for delivery to my house. As said before DPD give to Chronotoss, who then give to man in a white van, who doesn't give a toss, when I look at the suivi, evidently I have requested a new delivery place, bloody news to me.
