The same in the Lakes, Yorkshire Dales, N York Moors and probably many other attractive places as well. As said the problem is one of supply and demand and national park rules - essentially trying to preserve the environment in aspic - means no major increase in house supply when at the same time demand has gone through the roof.
Significant taxes (excessive if you will) on second homes might create some correction, but be sure that there will be those who will play the system and claim their second home in a "nice" place to live, is in fact their first home and that their second home is that cramped urban property.

And until the issue of an adequate housing supply is addressed, it will be the richest that grab the nicest properties in the safest areas. Just as it has always been.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

And when it is addressed, and all the countryside has been concreted over for housing, then there will be no "nice" areas.

England is already the most densely populated large country in Europe.

That's 5-year-old data . . . a quick Wikipedia search brings up 2019 figures - England 432/km2, Netherlands 423/km2.

Yes - and it is using data between 5 and 10 years old.

I think rsm is referring to the basis upon which the data is interpreted.
